Eleni Riga is an independent curator, cultural producer and writer based in Athens, Greece. Her practice focuses on the intersection of ecologies and feminisms.
Her career trajectory includes roles, such as the assistant curator and catalog coordinator for the Case_L exhibition at Kunsthalle Friart Fribourg in Switzerland, featuring works by Georgia Sagri. She has also contributed to the Adult and Academics Programs at MoMA, New York City, under the guidance of Pablo Helguera and served as the Director of the Contemporary Art Department of Eleusis 2023 – European Capital of Culture in Elefsina, Greece. Notably, she served as a curatorial assistant for documenta 14, spanning both Athens, Greece, and Kassel, Germany alongside with Pierre-Bal Blanc. Her recent exhibition include Winter Nights at BO in Oslo, Norway; Liquid Ports at ATOPOS cvc in the framework of Art Explora Festival; Hyperhidrosis: Sweating together at the Bath House of the Winds-Museum of Modern Greek Culture in Athens; Rast Diversion, organized by 3 137 and All of Greece, one Culture (Ministry of Culture & Alternative Opera Scene) at Shipyards of the Archaeological Site of Oiniades, Aetolia-Acarnania and Ecofeminisms Today: Promiscuous Entaglements at Callirrhoë, Athens.
Since 2022, she has led the Office of Hydrocommons, a dynamic curatorial initiative exploring water and body politics in the Mediterrenean through exhibitions, public programs, residencies, and publications, in partnership with ATOPOS cvc and various national and international allies (Art Explora, Balkan Projects, Prohelvetia, Goethe Institut, French Institute of Greece, Ministry of Culture, Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, Festival of Athens & Epidaurus, Region of Crete, Region of Southern Aegean, Auberge de France etc.). The platform brings together artists, scientists, activists and athletes.
She graduated from the Department of Communication, Media, and Culture at Panteion University in Athens (BA) with an Erasmus at Universidad de Salamanca and furthered her education with a Master’s degree (M2) in curatorial studies at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and a post-master’s certificate from Konstfack – University of Arts, Crafts, and Design in Stockholm, Sweden. Her early experiences at gb agency, Kadist, Palais de Tokyo in Paris where pivotal. She has curated the public program Ecología y feminismo during her time at MoMA with guests Inés Katzenstein (Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Research Institute for the Study of Art from Latin America) and Regina José Galindo articulating a parallel between the practice of the latter and Ana Mendieta from an ecofeminist lens.
She has participated in residencies such as GENERATOR, 40mcube, in Rennes, France; Onassis AiR, in Athens, Greece; G. & A. Mamidakis, in Agios Nikolaos, Greece; and ARCAthens, in New York City, USA. Currently, she is laureate of the residency program Institut français x Cité internationale des arts.
